ICAST 2010 Review
Posted by Bob on July 23, 2010

Well, the Shark Tooth swam to Las Vegas for the big show and devoured everything in sight. ASA put the chum in the water and the Shark Tooth feasted on the competition.
What a great show, I had a blast, checking out all the products for 2011 season not to mention all the hotties running around. We had a great show! Our booth was packed the whole time we were there and the celebrities kept coming like a river overflowing its banks.

Ray Scott came by (the founder of Bass Masters) he just had to see the product that was the talk of the show, what a cool cat he is. Mr. Scott added he hasn’t seen anything so inventive in the last 42 attendances at ICAST! Now that statement says it all about the Shark Tooth. That man has been around and Mr. Scott couldn’t keep his hands off it. We’re also invited to his pad for some kick ass fishing, cant wait for that.
We also hooked up with the number one angler on the plant and proud endorser of the Shark Tooth, KVD. What a great guy and one hell of a fisherman, he’s a blast to hang out with. Kevin loves the Shark Tooth and it’s just a no brainier he endorses it.

It just makes sense for cutting all your lines and also keeping them in control on your boat in your bags. Kevin added “no more bird nests!”. Kevin also did a demonstration of the Shark Tooth in action for WFN (World Fishing Network) which will air to over 40 million viewers in the next few months. We’re also working on the next generation of the Tooth with Kevin that will be introduced at the classic in February.
The buzz also got to Mike Icconelly who stopped by to see the Shark Tooth swimming in action.

What a great guy and one hell of a fisherman. Mike sports the Shark Tooth on his spools, why shouldn’t you? “It’s just so simple”, he added “and sure makes fishing a little more fun and less frustrating what a great product”. Guess who else stopped by, Larry Dahlberg, Bill Dance, Babe Winkleman and lots of other bass pros and saltwater junkies.
The Shark Tooth chewed the buyers up as well, Basspro, Cabelas, Fishing Tackle Unlimited, Academy, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Sports Authority to just name a few. The Shark Tooth also made it to every country around the world to feed on Brazil, Tahiti, Hungry, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Iceland, just to name a few.
There was one draw back with the new product showcase, a product like the shark tooth spool management system has to be demonstrated to understand its functionality and how it actually works. We had the media at our booth after the votes were in, and they were upset and distraught, there must have been 20 to 30 people tell us that if we could have demoed the product and explained what the product is used for they would have voted for it. An ASA member tracked me down in the hallway at the Hilton, because of our bitching shirts that had Shark Tooth all over them. He was wondering what the product was and informed me that we lost by a very small margin. I know that if people knew what it was, we would have taken home the whiskey glass. I seriously think the ASA has to reconsider and let people demo the products before judging.
FFX would like to thank everyone who helped make this dream a reality, these types of projects are not easy and we realize all involved made it a reality for us. The Shark Tooth is hungry and swimming to a store near you, so what are you waiting for “TAKE A BITE OUT OF LINE” SHARK TOOTH SPOOL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

KVD takes his 3rd Classic championship
Posted by Bob on February 24, 2010

KVD mined a large spawning flat in the back of Beeswax Creek for three days and delivered three limits that cumulatively weighed 51 pounds, 6 ounces to outlast Jeff Kriet, Todd Faircloth, Russ Lane and 47 others to take home the trophy to an increasingly crowded mantle.
“Well, this was a challenging week weatherwise. I’ve had a lot of success in Alabama over the years,” VanDam said of his seventh Classic in the state. “It’s always alluded me. I love fishing these lakes.” VanDam was also appreciative of the fishing-savvy fans in the state, saying the throngs of spectators gave him room to win. “In 1992, when I won my first AOY, what I remember about Alabama is the fans,” he said. “One of the main reasons I was able to catch what I did was the fans. I was fishing in the back in Beeswax Creek and the fans were very courteous.”
The victory wasn’t wire to wire: VanDam led after Day 1 but trailed Kriet by 2 ounces after the second day of competition. When they launched Sunday morning, he was only a single ounce ahead of Faircloth. All three fished almost exclusively in Beeswax, but VanDam’s fish proved to be the most reliable, plentiful and sizable over the course of three days.
With this victory, Kevin trails only Rick Clunn (four) on the all-time Classic victory list. Only three other anglers, Bobby Murray, Hank Parker and George Cochran, have won more than once.
VanDam also has five Toyota Tundra Angler of the Year awards, including the past two.

BBT hits the Beaverhead in Dillon, MT.
Posted by Bob on January 23, 2010

I started out this morning with a big black and yellow, not much success. The water was high and clear surrounded by ice and snow. Wading right now is a little tough but manageable. I changed over to a natural rabbit, let it drift into the first pool and he nailed it. These fish have had plenty of rest the last 2 months due to sub-zero temperatures. He bolted down river with one good head shake. I land him and released a nice 18-inch brown. The second cast into the pool I thought the rod was going out of my hands, he @#$%#@!# nailed it! This fish had some power; he took off like a bat out of hell down river. I finally managed to land him, a nice 20-inch brown. My hands were wet and I was ready for a shot of something warm (anything over 80 proof will do the trick). So if you are in the Dillon area check out the water its fishing great. Try streamers, natural in color and hang on BBT

The Bighorn
Posted by Bob on January 20, 2010
When the forecast calls for 50-degree weather in January the thought of heading for the bighorn surpassed all other temptation. So with gear and the boat loaded we headed that way. Almost instantly it proved to be a wise decision when bishop within 2 or 3 cast hooked into a nice brown. Although we fought a stiff breeze for the fist hour or two, the day proved to be a good one, the water temp was a seasonally “warm” 40 degrees making the fish a bit sluggish but all that was needed to remedy that was a slowed retrieval. Black woolly buggers were the ticket with a bit of weight to make them more castable in the wind and slapped on the water as close to the bank as possible. Once freed of the “oar duty” orocketman didn’t waste much time in hooking into a few nice browns of his own including the biggest fish of the day, as is usually the case! Up at the front of the boat (Shawna Osborne) decided to try nymphing for the first half of the trip but with less than satisfactory results having being skunked, but she would have her revenge for after switching to a black bugger with a bit of flash in it she was the only one bringing in the fish at the end of the day. The totals at the end of the day were around thirty trout to the boat and about twice that amount of hits and misses but of course all smiles. All in all it was a great day and a bit above average even after considering that a bad day of fishing still beats the hell out of a great day at work!
