Well, the Shark Tooth swam to Las Vegas for the big show and devoured everything in sight. ASA put the chum in the water and the Shark Tooth feasted on the competition.

What a great show! I had a blast checking out all the products for the 2011 season not to mention all the hotties running around. Our booth was packed the whole time and the celebrities kept coming like a river overflowing its banks.

Ray Scott (the founder of Bass Masters) came by, he just had to see the product that was the talk of the show. What a cool cat he is. Mr. Scott said that he hadn’t seen anything so inventive in the last 42 attendances at ICAST! Now that statement says it all about the Shark Tooth. That man has been around and he couldn’t keep his hands off it. We’re also invited to his pad for some kick-ass fishing, can’t wait for that.

We also hooked up with the number one angler on the plant and proud endorser of the Shark Tooth: KVD. What a great guy and one hell of a fisherman, he’s a blast to hang out with. Kevin loves the Shark Tooth and it’s just a no brainier that he’d endorse it.

It just makes sense for cutting all your lines and also keeping them in control on your boat and in your bags. Kevin added, “no more bird nests!” Kevin also did a demonstration of the Shark Tooth in action for WFN (World Fishing Network), which will air to over 40 million viewers in the next few months. We’re already working on the next generation of the Tooth with Kevin which will be introduced at the Classic in February.

The buzz also got to Mike Icconelly who stopped by to see the Shark Tooth swimming in action.

What an awesome guy and a fantastic fisherman. Mike sports the Shark Tooth on his spools, so why shouldn’t you? “It’s just so simple,” Mike said, “and it sure makes fishing a little more fun and less frustrating. What a great product!” Guess who else stopped by? Larry Dahlberg, Bill Dance, Babe Winkleman and lots of other bass pros and saltwater junkies.

The Shark Tooth chewed up the buyers as well: Basspro, Cabelas, Fishing Tackle Unlimited, Academy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Sports Authority to just name a few. The Shark Tooth also made it to every country around the world to feed on Brazil, Tahiti, Hungry, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Iceland, just to name a few.

There was one drawback with the new product showcase: a product like the Shark Tooth Spool Management System has to be demonstrated for people to see its functionality and understand how it actually works. We had the media at our booth after the votes were in and they were upset and distraught. There must have been 20 to 30 people who told us that if we could have demoed the product and explained what the product is used for, they would have voted for it. An ASA member tracked me down in the hallway at the Hilton when he saw our bitching shirts that had “Shark Tooth” all over them. He was wondering what the product was and informed me that we lost by a very small margin. I know that if people knew what it was, we would have taken home the whiskey glass. I seriously think the ASA has to reconsider and let people demo the products before judging.

FFX would like to thank everyone who helped make this dream a reality. These types of projects are not easy and we realize all involved made it a reality for us. The Shark Tooth is hungry and swimming to a store near you, so what are you waiting for – “TAKE A BITE OUT OF LINE” SHARK TOOTH SPOOL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.

KVD mined a large spawning flat in the back of Beeswax Creek for three days and delivered three limits that cumulatively weighed 51 pounds, 6 ounces to outlast Jeff Kriet, Todd Faircloth, Russ Lane and 47 others to take home the trophy to an increasingly crowded mantle.

“Well, this was a challenging week weatherwise. I’ve had a lot of success in Alabama over the years,” VanDam said of his seventh Classic in the state. “It’s always alluded me. I love fishing these lakes.” VanDam was also appreciative of the fishing-savvy fans in the state, saying the throngs of spectators gave him room to win. “In 1992, when I won my first AOY, what I remember about Alabama is the fans,” he said. “One of the main reasons I was able to catch what I did was the fans. I was fishing in the back in Beeswax Creek and the fans were very courteous.”

The victory wasn’t wire to wire: VanDam led after Day 1 but trailed Kriet by 2 ounces after the second day of competition. When they launched Sunday morning, he was only a single ounce ahead of Faircloth. All three fished almost exclusively in Beeswax, but VanDam’s fish proved to be the most reliable, plentiful and sizable over the course of three days.

With this victory, Kevin trails only Rick Clunn (four) on the all-time Classic victory list. Only three other anglers, Bobby Murray, Hank Parker and George Cochran, have won more than once.

VanDam also has five Toyota Tundra Angler of the Year awards, including the past two.

Spawned from a elite family group of Northern and Southern California fisherman, with a long and valued angling history, comes TEAM XTREME; considered by many to be one of the world’s finest fly-fishing teams to have ever laced up a rod. Whether fishing freestone mountain streams to saltwater flats, Team Xtreme has one unified mission, to cover the globe and catch trophy fish.

The core of Team Xtreme is composed of 5 anglers who were born and bred for extreme fishing at extreme locations. They include:

Bobby “Brown Trout” (aka BBT) is the founder of Fly Fishing Xtreme and is the heart and soul of Team Xtreme. Possessed with an intense focus on the art of angling, BBT is rarely found off of the water. A Northern California transplant to southwestern Montana, BBT decided long ago to deviate from tradition and take fly fishing to the “Xtreme” level.

Jake “Stimulate”, the Captain of Team Xtreme, began fishing at an early age and consistently maintains a high level of focus and commitment to fighting and landing the target species. A Southern California native, Stimulate has fished most of the western hemisphere, is proficient on any body of water, and never, ever lets the big one get away.

Jesse “The Shark” is the co-founder of Fly Fishing Xtreme and is a killing machine with a fly rod. From the Montana to Patagonia, and everywhere in between, The Shark is considered a deadly predator who always lands high numbers of trophy fish. Another So. Cal. native, The Shark is always on the hunt for large fish, as well as for tall cocktails back at the lodge.

Brett “Rock and Roll” is Team Xtreme’s resident salt water expert. As a Southern California native, “RnR” has mastered the ways of kayak fishing set forth by the local native American Indians. Stealth and maneuverability of a kayak have only added to the skills possessed by “RnR”. Whether in tight to the kelp or miles offshore, “RnR” feels just at home on a 12-foot piece of plastic as he does on a 60-foot power yacht. His quiver consists both of fly and conventional rods. In recent years, “RnR” has also honed his fly fishing skills on the inland side of the coast in order to conquer all of the prime freshwater species. Known for always landing trophy fish, some claim he even invented the rum and coke.

Justin “Balls Deep” is the newest member of Team Xtreme but by no means should be considered a rookie. A life-long fisherman residing in So. Cal., Balls Deep is a deadly stick when on the water. An engineer by trade, Balls Deep is calm and calculating in the hunt for big fish in both local and exotic locations. But don’t let his poise fool you as you can’t be a member of Team Xtreme without being able to set steel to the beak of a large trout or billfish followed by a night-long party!
